acupuncture:
the foundation of healing
Acupuncture is at the heart of every treatment at Healing Blossom. It acts both locally and systemically, simultaneously regulating hormones, reducing stress, relieving pain, and improving circulation. While other modalities are integrated into care — herbal medicine, nutrition, modern diagnostics and more — acupuncture provides the foundation, making every other intervention more effective.
Acupuncture is central to Larisa’s practice
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) work to:
Regulate menstrual cycles and balance hormones
Reduce pain and inflammation
Increase blood flow
Calm the nervous system to reduce stress and improve both sleep and emotional resilience
Improve overall cognitive function
Modulate the immune system - acupuncture has the unique ability to both stimulate and suppress the immune system, depending on the body’s needs
Strengthen overall vitality and support health aging
And more…

FAQs About Acupuncture
-
Acupuncture is the insertion of hair-thin, sterile, single use, disposable needles into carefully selected acupoints of the body, ear or scalp.
-
Yes. This is a very safe medical procedure when administered by a qualified practitioner. The National Institute of Health (NIH) Consensus statement on Acupuncture states “One of the advantages of acupuncture is that the incidence of adverse effects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other accepted medical procedures used for the same condition.”
-
No. When the needles are inserted you may experience a sensation of tingling, prickling, pressure, or warmth. Once the needles have been inserted most are unaware of their presence. Many are pleasantly surprised to find that treatments are usually deeply relaxing and rejuvenating.

Only in part! Research has demonstrated that acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, our body’s natural painkillers, along with the release of neurotransmitters that can boost mood.
Brain imaging (fMRI) and EEG during acupuncture show that it can actually modulate brain activity, both via chemical and electrical signaling, to improve functional connectivity and neuroplasticity. It can also alter brain wave activity, reducing excitability of the brain cortex to promote a state of calm and help with insomnia.
Science is still discovering more about how acupuncture works. At this stage it is ‘incomplete’ — but we know that acupuncture does have specific physiological impacts on the body.
Electro-Acupuncture for Fertility
Electro-acupuncture involves using a machine attached by a cord and clip to acu-points to provide gentle stimulation. It can feel like a tapping or pulsing sensation, but is not painful.
It can:
Calm the nervous system to reduce stress
Increase blood circulation, both locally and systemically
Support glucose metabolism (blood sugar) by increasing absorption of glucose by the skeletal muscles
Improve insulin sensitivity
Reduce pain associated with the menstrual cycle
Adjunct Therapies
Primarily used for pain and muscle tension in the back, neck and shoulders, cupping uses suction to raise the skin and increase local blood flow. It can leave perfect round bruises that usually aren’t tender and resolve within a few days to a week.

Gua Sha stimulates circulation of blood and lymph, releases tension, and supports the body's natural healing process. It has two separate and distinct uses, one for the body and one for the face.
When used on the body, it can help relieve muscle tightness and pain, improve mobility, and encourage recovery from injury.
When used as part of a facial acupuncture treatment, gua sha is much gentler and is designed to promote healthy circulation and lymphatic drainage, soften muscle tension, reduce puffiness, and support a brighter, more sculpted complexion.

Moxibustion, also called ‘moxa,’ has a variety of uses in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is the primary therapy used with acupuncture for a breech baby (see Pregnancy). Moxa can also help digestion, stop or slow uterine bleeding, and aid in recovery postpartum or post-surgery.

Acupuncture has been used to treat most conditions but one of its most powerful impacts is on the nervous system. It downregulates our sympathetic nervous systerm, our ‘fight or flight’ response, to effect calm, relaxation and well-being.
